Sudden rise in interest in the Shroud due to studies

I've noticed a lot of studies coming out recently and a lot of buzz on the internet about the Shroud.
If you've just recently found out about the Shroud maybe even from this site. What was your initial impression vs after having done any research (if you have done some).

tbh im not so sure that its real
the idea they took the carbon 14 dating from a replacement patch doesnt really hold up
